In the Philippines, the island of Mindanao has become one of the trafficking hotspots because of armed conflict. Children are trafficked to major cities and neighboring countries, particularly Malaysia.
Trafficking victims are promised jobs such as domestic helpers or entertainers. Unware of the dangers ahead, children often have their own aspirations of wanting to see the big cities, helping their siblings and family, acquiring material gains, going to Japan as “entertainers”, and improving their physical appearance.
Children are commonly trafficked for exploitation in the sex trade – an estimated 60,000 to 100,000 children in the Philippines are involved in prostitution rings. There is a high incidence of child prostition in tourist areas. An undetermined number of children are forced into exploitative labor operations. Among the main causes of child trafficking in the Philippines are poverty, low economic development in communities of origin, gender inequalities, limited employment opportunities, existence of and access to public infrastructure (roads, schools, health centers, etc), large family sizes, inadequate awareness among families, and sex tourism.

Hating Kapatid Reviewed

Hating Kapatid is a much a waited movie team up of two of the Philippine’s Box Office Stars. Judy Ann Santos who had box office movies like Kasal, Kasal, Kasalo and Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo. Both movies won awards and became a hit. Sarah Geronimo had her share of the box office title with her team up with John Lloyd for A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life.
The movie Hating Kapatid is about acceptance and forgiveness. Judy Ann portrays Rica, Cecil’s (Sarah Geronimo) sister, who took the responsibility of raising her sister after their parents went abroad to work. The siblings were doing fine and were worry free. The conflict arises when Cecil started getting independent and their parents decided to go home which made it worse.
Hating Kapatid has a perfect mix of drama and comedy. I think Luis Manzano’s role made me laugh more than comedian Vice Ganda. Probably because I already heard of Vice’s lines from his noontime show – nothing new. It was the movie that has most sponsors, and they showed them all in the film. Very irritating. You’ll see Belo, Jollibee, Charmie, Magic Sing, Video City, Cebuana Lhuillier and I was waiting for them to show an acne pill. I honestly felt that the movie was rushed. They have a great storyline and cast but the way it was presented made me feel they stole money from the tickets I bought.
It was a nice movie but not worth watching it on the big screen. I should have waited for it at Cinema One.

Sorcerer’s Apprentice Reviewed

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, brought the glitter back in to Nicholas Cage’s career. He portraits Balthazar Blake, one of three students of Merlin. Having learned from the great wizard he posses magical powers and powerful spells needed to complete a mission left by the great wizard – to find his would be apprentice. It took him centuries to find him but he did not age. Merlin must know an age spot remover spell. Jay Baruchel did a good job in portraying the apprentice.
The movie has a perfect mix of action, comedy and magic. Magic and Physics does not go together. They contradict each other, but the movie had explained the relation between magic and science.
A number of spells and magical items reminded of JK. Rowling’s world. Fight scenes were not as breath-taking as I wanted it to be but liked it.

I have seen a lot of diet pill, wight loss pill and even slimming pill reviews online but there are only a few of hydroxycut reviews. Maybe I should make on my own. But I do now have any plans of using any of those products. Will a person be able to make a review of a product without him using it? I think not. I’ll just leave to the experts and to Google to help me find a good review.

Philhosting Fail

If you notice most of my post were dated today, July 22, 2010. It was because the hosting company that hosted my blog said their server crashed and everything I had on my blog were can no longer be retrieved. Thanks to Philhosting. I thought that if I’d go with a local hosting company I’d get better support because they’re just a phone call away. But just have to say that they have the worst phone support ever. I’ve been with them for almost a year and had called their support multiple times and all I hear from them is “pakihintay-hintay na lang po sir” as if it was part of a spiel or a script handed out to them in case a customer calls asking when the site will be back up and running. That’s not all. The way they deliver the line is unacceptable! They sounded irritated every time I call and follow and I felt that they’re hands are itching to finish the call and drop the line - hey, we already told you to wait so just wait and don’t call again. I just wish they have disability insurance and may God have mercy on them.
