Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia, home to leading regional pay-TV channels including AXN and Animax, is rebranding AXN Beyond as beTV across Asia. Beginning 2 April 2012, the new beTV channel will feature an expanded content line-up and a new on- and off-air look and feel, with a channel ‘personality’ to match.

“We have been broadening the appeal of AXN Beyond by introducing a wider range of programming such as Pan Am, Necessary Roughness and A Gifted Man. Renaming the channel to beTV better reflects the broad general entertainment service that it offers. We believe beTV will soon become the new entertainment ‘hang-out’ for viewers to relax, laugh, catch up with their favourite characters and shows, or just unwind after a long day,” said Mr Ricky Ow, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television.

I’ll never forget what National Artist for Theater and Music, Honorata “Atang” De la Rama, mention when I watched her acceptance speech on TV.  She mentioned that Filipinos are musically gifted, we love music. You can hear farmers singing songs while planting, you can hear fruit pickers hum tunes and women singing while cooking or washing the laundry in the river.  We sing with almost anything we do.

What has happened to our own music? Some say that OPM music is baduy, how come OPM music are the ones we sing in videokes?  We love OPM music we’re just not proud to admit it.

Life is about moving on. And that was what Nathan Azarcon, Ira Cruz and Vic Mercado did when their former band Bamboo ceased being a group. With their passion for music, they decided to form their own group in late January 2011—a band they would eventually call Hijo.

“The name Hijo was suggested by Vic,” Nathan said. “It is short for HIJO dePuga”

Nathan, aside from playing bass now mans the vocals with Ira and Vic still doing the same thing they are good at- guitars and drums respectively. But adding to the band’s members are Radioactive Sago Project’s Junji Lerma on guitars and Wowee Posadas (who replaced Jay Orduna) on keyboards.

For people to get a taste of their music, Hijo released an EP entitled “Slow Rock Vol. ½”which they tag as “Kung-Fu Rock”.

“It is slow rock… and we wanted a funny title for it. It’s so dark as it is,” Nathan said.

War Horse tells a story about a young man named Albert (Jeremy Irvine) and a horse called Joey.  This epic adventure chronicles the exploits of Albert and Joey after they are separated by war.  The film follows ttttthe horse’s adventure and his feats to touch the lives of the people he meets including German soldiers, British cavalry and a French farmer and his granddaughter.

The movie is based on the novel by Michael Morpugo and already has a Broadway version.  It’s really amazing to see the horse doing some great acting.  The trainer and the director did a great job. It isn’t CG it’s a real horse and I he deserves an award.  the movie is not near being a tear jerker but it will definitely touch your heart.

THE CRANBERRIES ARE BACK in Manila for their much-awaited “The Greatest Hits Concert” on April 10th at the Araneta Coliseum. The Irish rock band, one of the world’s biggest rock acts in the 1990s, first staged a concert in the Philippines in 1996. They attained a worldwide fan base after releasing their hit songs, which are now rock and roll classics: “Linger”, “Zombie”, “Ode To My Family”, “Animal Instinct”, “Ridiculous Thoughts”, and a lot more.

Stephanie Uy, President of Karpos Multimedia Inc., the producer of the said concert, shares that they are very excited to bring The Cranberries here in the Philippines.

“The Cranberries are going to tour starting March until July, and we’re very lucky because Philippines is the only country that they’ll visit in Asia. We can’t wait to have them here,” she says.

“So if you love rock and you miss the music of the 90’s, this is an event you shouldn’t pass up,” Uy adds.

Pinoy band Franco will showcase their own brand of rock and roll as the front act for  The Cranberries.
