I have been waiting to have Nokia release the Belle update for my Nokia E7-00 phone.  I’ve already read a couple of good reviews about it which makes me more excited about it.  Nokia was supposed to release it December last year but seems that they have their hands full with their Nokia WP line up, plus they all released a statement that Symbian devices will no longer be supported after 2016.

Nokia may still be far behind from Android and iOS devices, but they still have a huge loyal followers wishing that Nokia will still be able to win the competition.  Nokia’s main problem is the lack of great apps. Mobile phone users are now in to fun apps on social, games, work and entertainment.

Many companies nowadays have little or no concern for the environment. They don’t mind emitting a large amount of smoke, cutting down trees, and polluting waters as long as they make money. Among those ruthless companies are those in the computer industry. A lot of computers are so efficient but consume a lot of energy, bringing forth negative environmental effects.

RedFox has established itself as the leader in the Philippine IT industry for over two decades. But it has recently proven that it is more than just a provider of affordable technological innovations. RedFox is also more than willing to support a greater cause: the protection and welfare of our planet.

As part of its efforts to contribute to a cleaner and greener environment, RedFox sponsored the 2011 Miss Earth beauty pageant in Tarlac, Capitol Plaza last November 23 and 24, 2011. Abenson’s Bayanihan Program in Bulacan

Rain. Floods. Broken electronics.

Regardless of who needs help–relative, friend, neighbor, and even strangers– Filipinos come together to help their kababayans during times of calamities. So it comes as no surprise that when Bulacan experienced heavy rainfall and floods, Abenson stepped up to help Bulakeños in need.

Through its ‘We Serve’ program, the leading appliance store in the country will be offering free laundry services, free appliance cleaning, checkups, and discounts on spare parts for electronics. This bayanihan effort is in cooperation with Samsung, Sharp, LG, TCL, Kelvinator, Condura, Fujindenzo, and Whirlpool, though the help of the Bulacan provincial government.

Abenson will be offering its services in the following areas on these dates:

October 25 (Tuesday) : Sta. Monica Covered Court, Hagonoy
October 26 (Wednesday) : Municipal Covered Court, Paombong
October 27 (Thursday) : Sports Complex and Convention Center, Malolos
October 28 (Friday) : Poblacion Sports Complex, Calumpit

As expected, Abenson remains true to its commitment to giving Filipinos quality service and living up to the tenets of the bayanihan spirit by extending help to all in need.

Last August 1, TV5 and MMDA launch the easiest and most effective way to view the traffic situation in Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares—the Metro Manila Traffic Navigator. TV5′s five-month old online news portal, InterAksyon.com, powers up the site that can be accessed via www.interaksyon.com, or http://mmdatraffic.interaksyon.com/.

MMDA is definitely the most hi-tech and interactive government agency. They started with a twitter account @MMDA and now, in partnership with TV5 they have developed an application that will give real time, on time traffic situation in Metro Manila.  Following the release of its public beta version last June 29, at least 6,000 drivers and commuters have been using the TV5-MMDA Traffic Navigator everyday.

Executed by the all-Filipino cutting-edge web design team, Stray Interactive, the Traffic Navigator’s information design is easy to understand and gives users access to the macro and detailed views of the traffic situation. Online users can also share the traffic situation via Twitter or Facebook with just a click of an icon.

When you click on a location, it tells you the traffic situation and the time it was updated.  It also has a facebook and twitter share button if you want to share them to your friends.

The Line View shows the traffic situation on a road you chose.

Regardless of the operating system, the Traffic Navigator will run and is optimized for any PC-based or mobile browser. It will run on Wintel computers, Macs, Linux machines, iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Windows Mobile, Opera, and any web browser already installed on mobile gadgets.  The Android app is already available for download and is already being used by commuters.

In my case,  I don’t have any of those Android or iOS devices but what I have is a Nokia E7 phone.  I tested the MMDA Traffic Navigator using the Opera Mobile browser  and was able to get great results. It’s very fluid, very light, and it does update real-time.  It does not require heavy bandwidth so it’ll load fast on your phone.

I’ll have to deal with using the Opera Mobile browser first but it’ll also be available on Symbian users soon.

TV5 and MMDA is a great example of adhering to the government’s call of a public-private partnership. I wish that others will follow.

Private - Public - Partnership

Your World, Our World – Connected Through Western Union

Are you the most globally networked individual? Almost all of us has a facebook account (i know you do too) but do you even bother how many friends overseas?  Some of your friends may have gone abroad for work or decided to migrate without you knowing. There this cool Facebook App that will help you locate your friends’current whereabouts based on their facebook accounts.

One of the world’s most globally connected companies, Western Union, is celebrating its 160th anniversary by launching a hunt for the most networked person in the world.

With 470,000 locations in 200 countries and territories. Western Union has an enormous global presence.

To celebrate this unique status, Western Union is calling for the Philippines’ most globally connected individuals to step forward and take the Western Union Network Challenge at www.westernunionworld.com/yourworld.

All you need to do is log in to you Facebook account and then on another tab log on to www.westernunionworld.com and click on your world.  It’ll prompt you to allow the Facebook App to access your account information, just click allow and this will show up.

Your World will show the number of friends you have and the country their in. The app also computes your World Index (number of friends overseas multiplied by the number of countries you have friends with.) In my my World Index is at 540. I know you probably have better scores than I have.  Try it it’s fun.

The column on the ride has a lot of information about Your World.  Your World Rank, Country Rank and Network Rank. Network Rank is your ranking from the number of friends you have using the app. It’s a fun app and very informative.

Now here’s the challenge.  Each individual’s score will also contribute to the score of the respective country of residence which will provide the ranking of the most geographically connected nations.  The Philippines also has the opportunity to prove to be the most geographically connected nation in the world.

Aside from Your World, you can also check out our world.  You can check out the world economic data or you can focus on once country. In the example below I chose the Philippines, of course.  The left side shows the Economic Data, the center shows the map and a time line that you can drag to which ever year you want to check out.  The right side shows Western Union of the Philippines.

Same page different year, 2009.  You can see the changes on the economic data. What captured my attention is the population info. 1980 we’re at 47M after 29 years, 2009 we’re at 92M. You can also see the growth in remittances which only shows that more Filipinos are now overseas.  You can play with the dates and make your own analysis. You nca use this in school for your Economics subject. This is really one great site.

Our history shows Western Union’s time line together with our history.  160 years of Western Union will be an enjoyable time travel.  Again you have to do is drag the time line, it’s reading a pop-up book.

Western Union really knows how to connect people with a  combined network of approximately 470,000 agent locations in 200 countries and territories. In 2010, The Western Union Company completed 214 million consumer-to-consumer transactions worldwide, moving $76 billion of principal between consumers, and 405 million business payments.

The latest mobile brand to take the Google’s Android OS brought together style, function and affordability. The Alcatel One Touch 890D is an entry level android phone with a 2’8″ resistive touch screen display. The screen is very responsive and is bi enough for me to play Angry Birds in it. I also installed Tweet Deck for Android. The Alcatel One Touch 890D comes with Androind 2.2 Froyo.

The One Touch 890D is suited for the masses.  For users who would want to experience the an Android powered phone at an affordable prize. It may not have dual core processors like the high end droids have, but it dual SIM capability which busy people needed. Having dual SIM will no longer require you to get any cell booster or switching SIM cards.

Most of the applications I installed ran smoothly but problems occur when there are multiple applications running.  I like the Gmail, the emails are automatically received, I do not have to done send-and-receive just like on my phone.

The only disadvantages are the camera, it’s all plastic, and the absence of 3G. A needed sacrifice to accommodate the target market’s price range.

Music Through My Urbanears

Urbanears makes headphones that fit your everyday life. With a legacy in design and functionality, we supply the perfect listening device for anyone with a pocket full of music and a wish to make the most of it. Launched in December 2009, Urbanears is a global brand that has strong sales worldwide.

I was able to get my hands on Bagis, an in-ear type of headphone. The basis of all the 4 models – Bagis, Medis, Plattan and Tanto. The names weird, but they actually suburbs in Sweden which explains the coordinates written outside the box.

Inside the box I found three sets of ear buds. Different sizes for different ears small, medium and large. For better listening experience.  There also is a 3.5mm to 3.5mm adapter and I have no idea what it’s for.  I would understand a 2.5mm to a 3.5mm adapter. There is also a catalog and cool logo sticker.

The specifications:

  • Audio
  • 9 mm handmade drivers
  • Frequency Response 20Hz-20kHz
  • Impedance 16Ω
  • Sensitivity 107dB
  • Max Input Power 5mW

I honestly don’t know what theses figures represent so I did some testing my self.  I first tried it on my phone. The first thing that showed up was this.

I think the reason for this is that since it also has a built in microphone and remote and the phone is not recognizing it. The headset is only compatible with unprotected 3.5 mm standard such as iPhone, Blackberry, HTC and more. This is where the adapter comes in.

Tadaan! Just like magic, the My Nokia phone is now recognizing the earphone.

The first thing I tried is the built in remote.  It says one click is for play/pause while playing a song or answer/disconnect a call.  Two clicks to play next song and three clicks for previous track. Unfortunately, none of the features worked. It only worked as an earphone. I tried a couple of clicks, plugging and unplugging but it still didn’t for playing music and answering calls as well.  I’ll try and borrow either a Blackberry, iPhone or a HTC phone and update you guys.

Next test is the Music Player test, none other then the iPod.

With the music player test I have created a playlist that includes songs of different genre and compared to using the iPod with an earphone I’m currently using.  The playlist consists of a song from orchestral concert, an acoustic song, a hip hop/ rnb music, an alternative rock track, a heavy metal song, pop, club music and trance.  Having heard both on different earphones, there is indeed a big difference in sound quality.  The Bagis gave more than what the other earphone had, specially when “Empire State of Mind” started playing.  The clarity of the sound made me appreciate the music more than the lyrics.  I also played one of my favorite songs “Walking After You” by the Foo Fighters and I enjoyed it even more. Made me want to pick up my guitar and start playing the song myself.

Here are the other available models:

The Plattan is designed to be the perfect classic headphone with all the additional features that make it above and beyond what a static headphone would offer. It is a full size on-ear model with a rich secluded sound in a compact body. It folds down to the size of your fist and comes with a ZoundPlug, allowing for a friend to plug in and share your music.

  • Audio40 mm handmade drivers
  • Frequency Response 20Hz-20kHz
  • Impedance 60Ω
  • Sensitivity 115dB
  • Max Input Power 40mW

PLATTAN (SRP Php 2,950)

The Tanto is constructed for maximum mobility without the compromise of performance, and is adorned with a sleek and minimalist look. We designed it thinking you’d want the full sound experience in a lightweight and portable headphone made for everyday use—to be taken along wherever you go.

  • Audio40 mm handmade drivers
  • Frequency Response 20Hz-20kHz
  • Impedance 32Ω
  • Sensitivity 112dB
  • Max Input Power 40mW

TANTO (SRP Php 1,950)

Medis is an unprecedented experience in ergonomics and functionality. The patented EarClick solution secures the earpiece at two separate points rather than one, relieving pressure to a nearly non-existent level while keeping it firmly in place. Additionally, the Medis rests a small distance from your ear canal and therefore doesn’t affect your balance. Naturally the Medis features a dynamic sound and the sleek and minimal design that is synonymous with Urbanears.

  • Audio15.4 mm handmade drivers
  • Frequency Response 20Hz-20kHz
  • Impedance 32Ω
  • Sensitivity 115dB
  • Max Input Power 5mW

MEDIS (SRP Php 2,450)

Urbanears comes in different colors and each year they release 14 colors to add to the collection and previous cikirs are discontinued making each color a limited edition. You can also visit their website http://www.urbanears.com and suggest a color and pray that it gets approved and produced. It combines both fashion and ergonomics, functionality and experience.

BAGIS (SRP Php 1,200)

Urbanears has been featured in numerous articles in publications such as Vogue (U.S.) and Elle (U.S). Urbanears recently won “People’s Choice” for this year’s Stora Designpriset in Sweden, and have won design awards such as IFA in Germany, and have created exclusive headphones for Wired Magazine.

I was using a different provider before and gave up and decided to switch to PLDT for the home phone an internet bundle. I have been with PLDT DSL service ever since I started blogging and never had a problem since then. I got Watchpad with it and was able to catch up on local TV news as I do my blogging, talk about multimedia/multitasking. Downloading, Uploading and watching videos is done with ease. Buffering was never an issue with 3Mbps on Plan 3000.  But wait, there’s more! ( I just have to say that) PLDT MyDSL customers will enjoy a FREE and UNLIMITED upgrade to 5Mbps form the 3Mbps plan. You will also get Watchpad with more exclusive content. I saw an banner for FHM TV posted on the website, that will surely keep me awake during my blogging nights. There will also be 1 year free of PLDT to PLDT NDD calls. I feel like writing for a Home TV Shopping channel because it seems that PLDT is already feeling the Christmas spirit and decided to give away gifts.

Just like how PLDT transformed internet from fast to superfast, Nuffnang had transformed me from a blogger to a better blogger.  Challenging me to write better, improve my blog site and think outside the box.  They have provided me with opportunities not just to earn but to meet and gain blogger friends.  I have been to their office once and they have the nicest staff I have ever encountered.

Internet to Sawa with 5Mbps ay hindi nakakasawa, there really is no reason to get tired of the speed especially in this day of age when almost everything is done over the internet.
