PHILIPPINES, 30 July 2011 – Just right after a storm, HotelwithHeart.com (HWH) brought a silver lining to the hearts of the children of Cavite City.
Last 1 June 2011, HotelwithHeart.com organized a signature campaign that would donate one pencil for every signature it collects on its Facebook fan page. It was like an archery equipment with arrows striking people’s hearts. With 5,000 pencils on hand and some copies of Dan’s Dynamic Dictionary on Science by Daniel Ng, the HWH staff went to visit Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) in their home base at the “Kariton Building” located in Cavite City on 30 July 2011. Alex Villaflores Oliva and Cedric Zapanta, two officers of DTC and volunteer teachers were there to give HotelwitHeart.com a warm welcome. Cedric said of the occasion, “These pencils will be of great help to our Kariton Klasrum as well as to our Outreach Program.” Dynamic Teen Company’s continuous outreach program is the primary motivation for HotelwithHeart.com to continue extending help to DTC.
The opportunity to bless the lives of children even in such a small area as Barangay Caridad, Cavite City is something that can never be taken for granted. Some of the teachers were once students of Efren Penaflorida (2009 CNN Hero of the Year) himself, and now the former students are teaching the new students. All it takes for change to happen is someone selfless enough to initiate it.
Alex (current president of DTC) guided the HWH staff over the other side of the road, where DTC volunteers were teaching the children. “Most of the families living here are living in deep poverty. You can see the narrow walkways, the flooded streets, and the small houses. But at the same time, you can see the children’s enthusiasm to learn from these volunteer teachers. There’s hope in their eyes”, says Manu Ofiaza, one of the HWH Event Organizers to document the event, “and we at HotelwithHeart.com intends to keep that fire of hope burning.”
