Building Happy Homes

I have been waiting for this event for almost a month and was glad that I was able to attend it.  It was supposed to on Feb 12 but was moved a week after because Senator Chiz Escudero and some celebrities has confirmed attendance.

Woke up at 5am to meet the 6am call time at H4H office at EDSA. So sleepy. I tried to sleep at the van but excitement got in my way. Ms Alice de Sagun, Communications Manager of H46 treated us breakfast on the way.

We arrived at the venue Caluan, Laguna after two hours. The place is huge, 100 plus hectares of land solely for housing projects. The place has it’s own public Market, Palengke ni Juan. It has water and electricity and land vast land to plant vegetables. It took us a few minutes to get us from the gate to All Purpose Hall. People Foundation where all smiles when volunteers came.  We were briefed of the safety precautions and we waited for the VIP’s to arrive.

First to arrive Senator Francis Escudero. Then came Bibeth Orteza, Christelle Belo, Karen Davila, Derek Ramsey, whom I thought was Mr. Zobel because he was riding a top of the line Mercedez Benz; and Fernando Zobel.

After  a short prayer.  All volunteers were segregated into small groups of  6  – 8.  I was included in team 12 were and was assigned to house number12.  Everyone was having fun.  Happy volunteers makes a happy home.  Aside from house 12, were also able to lay bricks on house 21 and 32 before lunch.

We were suppose to paint houses from the other section but the organizers decided to cut it short.  I back was already in pain but still I wished we had the chance to do other things aside from laying bricks.  This is the best post workout supplement ever.

Habitat for Humanity Bloggers Build

Habitat for Humanity is inviting blogger to take part in the part 3 of our Bloggers Build.  It will be held in Calauan, Laguna. This is our way to involve you by helping us propagate our cause of building homes for the deserving homeless, by your most effective media vehicle of blogging.

This Bloggers Build is a prequel to a Habitat for Humanity Youth Build on May 28 where there will be 1,000 youth volunteers to build also in the same place in Calauan.  My wife and I already signed up for it and were already excited about the trip and we hope you can join us as well.

The Blogger build is to be held on 12 February 2011. There is a registration fee of Php 650.00 which will cover transportation and lunch. Forget about buying don pepin cigars and spend the money to do something good for the community.

If you are interested, please call us at 8973069 and look for Ann Nagtalon or Marcia Yogore, or Gladys Santos.

Please be reminded of the following if you will grace us with your presence :

Marriott Hotel Manila joins Habitat for Humanity

To celebrate the Festive Season, Marriott Manila joins hands with Habitat for Humanity in building decent houses to live for families in need. Another “Spirit to Serve” activity of the hotel, the project aims to raise funds by working to improve the environment and well-being of the community they serve. By purchasing a Christmas ball worth P200 each, anyone gets a chance to be part of this worthy cause.

Spearheading the Christmas Ball donation is Model/Actress Ruffa and Richard Gutierrez, Phoemela Baranda, Cory Quirino, Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto, Marriott Manila General Manager Richard Saul, Marriott Manila Director of Sales and Marketing Indraneel Benadikar, and Chief Executive Officer Ricardo Nicanor-Jacinto.

Guests were entertained by Chinese Acrobats (which I thought was wearing womens boots) showcasing their death defying stunts and Pinoy Dream Academy winner Laarni Lozada singing Christmas songs.

For more information about this project, call (632)988-9999 local 8224 or visit our helpdesk at the hotel main lobby.
